I have the entire set of the gold on crystal bell ornaments with the storage box. I hate to do this, but I must sell them for moving expenses. Can you help me in this area? Thank you.
I also have the 6" (?) gold on crystal bells made during the late 1970s.

Barb and Dave say:   When it comes to any Danbury ornaments outside of the Gold Collection, I am lost. And I know absolutely nothing about bells. You might want to list each one individually on eBay with a starting bid of $5.00 per ornament and see where it takes you.

I would like info on selling my 1994 thru 1996 (I think) gold ornaments. I have complete sets minus 3 ornaments. I am moving and (ugh!) I need the money. Can you help me in this area in regards to what they are worth? Thank you

Barb and Dave say:   Danbury does not carry a back inventory of their ornaments so the secondary market is the only way for collectors to find these ornaments. The only place I know that you can easily find buyers for these ornaments is on eBay but, when it comes to pricing, I can only go by my experience. I have paid anywhere from $3.00 each up to $50.00 per ornament while I was completing my set. The original purchase price started out at $17.00 back in 1976 and Danbury now issues these for $20.00 each - this price has held steady for nearly 20 years! When you look at the eBay auctions, you will see some sets go for $30 for all 12 ornaments while other sellers are asking $200-300 per set. I've even seen them listed for $600 for a set; they didn't sell but I have seen sets go for $150-175 each. It all depends on if there is someone out there looking right now for the year you have and, as you stated, whether you set is complete or missing an ornament or two. But generally, someone looking to buy or sell should be dealing at a price of between $10 and $20 per ornament or $100.00 and $150.00 per set. Again, the price will depend on whether there is someone out there looking for this particular year.

I do not provide a "valuing" service as to how much the ornaments are worth. Valuing these ornaments is rather odd. The older, rarer ornaments do not demand the high prices - probably due to their simplicity - while the newer more intricate ones do often demand ridiculous prices. 1982 was a year where technology was beginning to have an impact on how intricate the designs were for these ornaments. That can move these into a more valuable category. There is a 1996 set on eBay right now and the bidding is up to nearly $90 with 2 days left.

Good luck!

I'm looking for the "snowflake enchantment" ornament from the 2002 Christmas series. Do you know where I may be able to find it? Thank you.

Barb and Dave say:   Danbury does not carry a back inventory, so the secondary market is the only way for collectors to find these ornaments. The only place I know that you can find these would be on eBay. But, by posting a message to our guest book, there is always the possibility that one of our visitors has an extra ornament and will contact you directly. Good luck!

Do you know if I can get the ornament boxes that Danbury supplied with the ornaments?
March 14, 2004 07:03 - Farmington Hills, MI

Barb and Dave say:   Yes - You can call Danbury Mint's Customer Service center at 1-800-243-4664, M-F, 9 am - 5 pm ET. You should also watch eBay. Occasionally boxes show up on eBay. Although I have never tried this, you could watch for eBay sellers who sell a lot of single ornaments. Once you have identified one, click on "Ask the seller a question" in one of the auctions and ask them if they have empty boxes they would be willing to sell. Thank you for visiting our Danbury site. Bookmark it and come back often.

I am trying to help my niece complete her set of the Danbury Mint Annual Gold Christmas Ornaments. She is only missing the 1991 one. I was thrilled to find your website and hope that it leads to being successful with my search. Thank you!

Barb and Dave say:   Thanks for visiting us and good luck. Hopefully one of our visitors will have what you are looking for. Also, check out eBay because that is where I filled in the majority of the 111 ornaments I needed to find to complete my collection.

My wife gave me the 1976 annual ornament the year we were engaged, and we have every one except the 1985 annual ornament, which we would like to obtain.

Barb and Dave say:   Rick, thanks for finding our site. Via this posting, hopefully someone with
a 1985 Manger will contact you. You should also watch on eBay. I do not recall seeing any circa 1980s annuals lately but it is worth watching for them. eBay was my way of completing my collection.

I have several years of the Danbury Mint Gold Ornament Collection that I am considering selling. I have 1996-present, as well as the annual ornaments for most years. My total collection has been obtained directly from the Mint, so there is substantial investment involved. All are carefully boxed and have the original paperwork. I am looking for offers for the collection. Anyone interested is welcome to contact me.

I am attempting to complete the entire collection from 1985 (at least) to present, continuing a legacy started by my mother. There is a puzzling element to the collection I inherited; my mother collected unicorns as well as these Danbury Gold Christmas Ornaments. The 1994 collection is missing one ornament - the unicorn - and I cannot for the life of me understand how she did not have this one! Anyway, I'm on the lookout for the 1994 Unicorn but am willing to buy an entire 1994 set to get it. I am also looking for the 1997 complete set. E-bay has been my primary source but in case you hear of anything with regard to the above, I would appreciate an e-mail. Thanks!

Barb and Dave say:   Arturo, thanks for visiting us! We are very happy that you found our Danbury site useful and we hope our site will help you fill in those missing ornaments! - Dave & Barb Ladner

Hello. I have been collecting the gold ornaments since 1980. I have noticed that some of the ornaments are discolored in places that could not be touched by the human hand. I store them in a cool, dry place. Do you have any ideas on how I can clean them.
January 9, 2004 18:01 - Farmington Hills, Michigan

Barb and Dave say:   Mary, first we thank you for visiting our Danbury site and hope you found it
informative and fun to view the entire collection.

As for the discoloration you are experiencing, with the exception of the 1994 Annual Clipper Ship which Danbury recalled immediately in the first quarter of 1995, I have personally never experienced any discoloration on any ornaments in my collection. This applies to both the 241 ornaments I purchased directly from Danbury thus far as a collector along with the 111 ornaments I purchased on the secondary market to complete my collection.

Since the base metal has always been solid brass coated with a very heavy gold electroplate, there should be no reaction between the two metals to cause discoloration. To remove fingerprints, you simply use a soft, lint-free cloth to buff them and they should return to a very high polish. You never want to use any cleaner or solvent on them at all; not even water. I actually talked to The Danbury Mint about this before on behalf of another party and, along with my own personal experience, can safely say that a simple buffing returns these ornaments to their original shine. Any discoloration would have to be caused by some other substance getting onto the ornaments and remaining in contact with the finish for an extended period of time.

Thank you again for visiting our site and come back often!

I was so happy to find your great site! Didn't realize that the annual collection started in 1976. My collection started in 1977, as a gift from my aunt. When she became ill about 8 years ago, I continued the tradition for my family and my 2 sisters. I thought that I was only missing 3 years, but now know that it is 4. To complete my collection, I need 1976, 1979, 1980, and 1982. The Mint had no suggestions, but I was told to try E-Bay. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Finding this site just made my day!!!

Barb and Dave say:   Thank you for visiting our Danbury Mint ornament site, Ruth. We are very pleased that you found us! Danbury Mint was right in directing you to eBay; that is the only place to find these ornaments. That is how I filled in all my missing ornaments from 1976 through 1983 which is when I started getting them from Danbury. Via this Guestbook posting, hopefully someone that has ornaments from the years you are looking for will contact you and you won't have to go through eBay. But, if you haven't checked out eBay, please do. It is easy to set up a Favorite Search and eBay will e-mail you when new items that match your criteria are listed. In any case, come back and visit often. Check out the Guestbook for more entries from other collectors and enjoy these exquisite works of art!
